Breakfast: the new luxury

Monday, September 17th, 2007

As if the world does not have enough problems on its plate, this week the Times exclusively revealed that the price of Breakfast is set to rise steeply. Let’s hope it doesn’t filter through to the caffs too soon. Or that we all get fantastic pay rises so that we can continue to afford our monthly privilege of a platter of greasy nosh.

Breakfast: just for the rich?

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

In case you did not see the news today, according to a shock report in the Daily Telegraph, the cost of Breakfast is going up.  Business correspondent ‘Harry Wallop’ – no, really, that’ his name – tells us that “for a full English breakfast you now need a fuller wallet”.  Tea is up nearly 20%, bacon by almost 10% – and eggs, bread, orange juice and coffee are all up by at least 4%.  It doesn’t actually say, but presumably the numbers are compared to the same time last year.

In the light of such devastating economic implications, should we abandon Breakfast Wednesday until we’re all in management and can afford it once more?  Shall we pawn our bicycles to buy the bread?

Nah .. we’ll press on and take it on the chin, like the true Brits that we are.  Here’s to breakfast – whatever the cost!
