March to work on a full stomach

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

March’s breakfast (as you might have guessed) will be held at Diana’s Diner, which is at 39 Endell Street – click here for a map of the location – on Wednesday the 12th from 7.30 or so

Diana's Diner

Last month’s turn out was particularly impressive, and between the 10 or so of us and the camera-woman and the presenter from Korea Broadcasting Service, we pretty much filled the upstairs room of the Market Cafe!  The food was good, and very reasonably priced – and getting your orange juice served up fresh in a pint bottle was an interesting twist.

February breakfasters

Between the usual breakfast banter and polishing off the delicious fry-up nosh, we held forth to the Korean camera on the significance of the great English breakfast, the importance of tea, and such like – and even managed to slip in a thought from that great man, W. Somerset Maugham: “To eat properly in England, one must have breakfast three times a day”.  Thus, to the either the benefit or the detriment of cross-cultural understanding, the people of Korea will soon be graced with the phenomenon that is … Breakfast Wednesday.

Breakfast from the Market Cafe

Market in your diary …

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Attention all!  The second breakfast of 2008 will be at the Market Cafe in Lime Street Passage, which is Leadenhall Market.  The nearest tubes are Bank or Monument.  The cafe used to be Obertelli’s Eating House – presumably the name changed to prevent unsuspecting customers from the misapprehension that they would devoured by a semi-detached residence.   Seating at the caff is Upstairs.

We may have some special guests at this breakfast – and as the seating space is a little limited, it would be very helpful to know the numbers expected in advance – so if you are planning to come, please could you either reply below – or else RSVP on Facebook

Here’s a photo of Obertelli’s … the Market Cafe looks very similar, except with “The Market Cafe” written on the frontispiece:

Usual time – 7:30am-9am – drop in at any time!
